Recently, the 7th Shanghai Teaching Competition for Young College Teachers concluded at Shanghai Normal University. Five faculty members from ECUST stood out among 275 young teachers from 65 universities and achieved excellent results.
Cheng Peng from the School of Resources and Environmental Engineering won the First Prize in the Applied Natural Sciences category. Yuanfei Li from the School of Foreign Languages received the First Prize in the Humanities category.
Yueling Liu from the School of Biotechnology was awarded the Second Prize in the Basic Natural Sciences category. Tianxiang Yin from the School of Chemistry and Zhengyu Shen from the School of Business each earned the Third Prize in the Basic Natural Sciences and Social Sciences categories, respectively. These accomplishments highlight the strong professional expertise, teaching excellence, and positive spirit of ECUST’s young faculty members.

Centered on the fundamental mission of fostering virtue through education, the competition emphasized “delivering an excellent course,” aiming to enhance teaching design and classroom delivery while encouraging innovation in educational philosophy and pedagogy.
ECUST places great importance on the role of the competition in faculty development. The University Trade Union, working together with the Academic Affairs Office, has built platforms for professional growth, promoting learning and teaching excellence through competition.
To support young teachers, ECUST established an integrated preparation system covering training, selection, practice and support. Since July 2025, a dedicated training camp has been launched, bringing together distinguished teaching experts and previous award winners to provide targeted guidance.
Six specialized training sessions were organized, focusing on teaching design, integrating values education into the curriculum, and courseware refinement. Throughout the preparation and competition process, comprehensive support was provided.
Meanwhile, leaders of University Trade Union visited the competition venue to offer encouragement, while staff members provided full-service support throughout the entire process, demonstrating the ECUST’s sustained commitment to nurturing high-quality teaching talent. These efforts collectively highlight ECUST’s comprehensive support system and its dedication to fostering excellence in teaching.
